The LOOP Zurich is a medical center for translational research and precision medicine. It focuses on new approaches, better diagnostics, and novel therapies that will benefit patients and society as a whole. The goal is to enhance personalized healthcare by efficiently transferring scientific knowledge into medical practice.

As part of its strategy, The LOOP Zurich is developing an IT research platform (“LOOP BMIP Data Platform”) between the major Zurich hospitals and academic partners (University of Zurich and ETHZ) of strategic importance to the Zurich medical research ecosystem. The platform will allow for translational data-driven research involving routine clinical data. It is an integral part of The LOOP Zurich’s precision medicine vision and aims to be compatible with national and international biomedical data sharing initiatives.

Your responsibilities

The LOOP Zurich is looking for a motivated software development engineer who will drive the design of a next-generation data integration platform connecting the four hospitals and the academic partners. You are responsible for the design and implementation of solutions for data-driven projects. You are part of a dynamic team and in close cooperation with employees and stakeholders at the hospitals, as well as representatives of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich. You actively and directly ensure the implementation of future-proof platform architectures and state-of-the-art technologies. In doing so, you contribute to the successful digital transformation of hospitals in Zurich.

Your responsibilities in this role:

  • transforming business requirements into application architectures
  • production issue triage, management, and prevention as needed
  • develop sustainable, accessibility compliant solutions
  • take ownership of the user stories/tasks
  • determining feasibility & scalability of front-end solutions, interacting with business and product owners in order to define technical solutions for customer problems
  • research & development of POCs & innovative new ideas
  • assisting in defining alternate solutions for the business problems and providing estimates for potential new workstreams
  • creating a learning culture by establishing, sharing, and enforcing best practices and lessons learned
  • long term technical debt resolutions, debt prevention & code reviews
  • analysis and implementation of Performance/Stability/Reliability/Architecture initiatives
  • ensuring the team develops with quality measuring via clean pipelines, and 90%+ coverage

Your profile

Technical skills:

  • 5+ years of overall experience in software development
  • experience with REST API development in Python, Express Js etc. is a plus
  • experience in Unix/Shell scripting is a plus
  • diverse experience utilizing Java tools in business, web and client-server environments including Java platform, J2EE, JDBC technologies
  • experience or exposure to database design and implementation
  • knowledge of multi-tier architecture, rational/visio modeling
  • familiar with cloud technologies like AWS, Google Cloud

Preferred experience in:

  • data intensive projects (projects with a lot of data engineering, data integration)
  • devops (setting up CI/CD)
  • working at hospitals or within healthcare
  • working with privacy sensitive data
